Thomas Brookes

CEO and Founder of the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC) and Meliore Foundation. Tom set up the GSCC network in 2012, building on his work as Executive Director of Strategic Communications at the European Climate Foundation (2009 - 2021). He is responsible for GSCC’s overall strategic direction and development. Tom is also a member of the Advisory Boards for the Climate Leadership Initiative, the Centre for Countering Digital Hate, the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit and the Lancet Countdown. In addition to his work with GSCC, Tom is also the CEO of Meliore Foundation, a leading organisation for philanthropy focused on funding fact-based strategic communications around climate and related issues. With over ten years of experience in climate communications, related political strategy and funder advisory capacities, Tom has in-depth knowledge of the actors and capacity needs in the space. He regularly brings that expertise to developing new initiatives and partnerships across issue areas, with the aim to accelerate climate action in line with the challenge ahead. Prior to joining the ECF in 2009, Tom was Director of Government Relations, Europe at Apple. He spent over a decade in communications and public affairs consultancy including as the spokesman and chief lobbyist for Microsoft throughout the company’s eight-year competition dispute with the European Commission.
